Independent opinion, built to withstand scrutiny
Credibility is the product. Every opinion is grounded, documented, and defensible — because it has to be.
An independent, evaluative role
Our function is strictly evaluative. We do not perform the repair work, hold no interest in the claim’s outcome, and render only the opinion the record supports.
Measured against published standards
Opinions are framed against the applicable building codes, the contract and plans, and recognized industry standards — IRC, IBC, ASTM, and ACI — so they hold up under cross-examination.
Retained by both sides, one standard
We work for plaintiffs and defendants alike. The analysis follows the evidence and the applicable standard of care, not the party that retained us.

Expert Witness FAQs
An expert witness is an independent, qualified professional who reviews the project records, inspects the work where appropriate, forms an opinion on the issues in dispute, and communicates that opinion — in writing and, if retained to do so, under oath.
The complaint and any answer, the contract and change orders, architectural and engineering plans, government permits and inspection records, photographs and video, correspondence, schedules, and cost records. The exact set depends on the matter, and I will tell you what I need up front.
Yes. A field visit to evaluate existing conditions is a standard part of most engagements and is how I ground my opinions in what was actually built, not just what the documents say.
I hold a Ph.D. in construction management, a P.E. license in Virginia and Texas, a Class “A” contractor license in Virginia and Washington, D.C., and I am a Supreme Court of Virginia certified mediator. I have testified and prepared expert reports for 20 years and am admitted in the Virginia and D.C. court systems.
